Embrace Your Inner Joy and Moxie: Designing a Future You Love

Last week, my role and position was eliminated. While I was repeatedly assured that this decision was nothing personal, as humans, we cannot help put to first absorb negative news as something personal, instead of what it typically is, something situational. As I began working through the emotions of this reality, and the grief of losing my job, stability, and daily conversations with teammates I’ve worked with for the past two and a half years, I have been reminding myself to embrace the change.

When I woke up Saturday morning, the first feeling immediately coursing through my veins was something a bit unexpected … relief. As I got dressed and ready to go cardio drumming (the best workout ever - pounding your aggression out on a yoga ball), I kept replaying the week’s events.

  • The shock and acceptance of being negatively impacted by this company reorg,

  • The concern and discomfort with the impending financial instability,

  • The unsettling feeling of the future for those who were in my charge and the unknown of who would be looking after them going forward, and

  • Empathy for those who remained and how they would simultaneously grieve, collect the broken pieces, and carry more burdens in the wake.

Then, I reflected on the positives and the value I had created.

  • The opportunities I created ny hiring and helping others to grow,

  • The amount of new processes, technology, and synergies I was able to create to produce better experiences and future scalability,

  • The number of people I was able to connect with, learn from, mentor, coach, and support, and

  • The many messages I received from coworkers who were just as surprised and confused as to why I would be let go.

It wasn’t until I was on my drive to my workout when I realized how heavy all of these emotions would typically feel to me. As an empath, I can easily find myself carrying the emotions of others, plus my own, and trying to shoulder all the related stress. But today was different. Today, I felt lighter. And then something clicked. 💥

I realized, this change was meant to be, it was a gift. I had been wrestling with feeling undervalued and underappreciated. I had been feeling burnt-out and lacking motivation. And no matter how hard I tried, I had struggled with feeling “myself” during regular business hours.

Today, I felt free to be me. 🧞‍♀️

As I drummed that morning, I released even more of those negative feelings and by the end of the session, I was sweating and smiling profusely. I knew that I was ready to see what the Universe had in store for me next. I was ready to get back to feeling confident and not second guessing my worthiness and strengths.

Change is a constant in life, and it can be both daunting and exciting. While last week's news was heartbreaking, I'm a firm believer that things happen for a reason. Even if I do not understand the reason now, something bigger and better is ahead. And as if the Universe could sense I needed confirmation, Saturday evening I found myself a four leaf clover! 🍀

This is a good time to reset for me. A time to embrace my boldness and unlock my true potential. With an added bonus of spending more quality time with my kids before a new school year starts. ✨
